Description
This first volume on the Gospel of John written for the International Critical Commentary was first printed in 1928 and so could be considered outdated. However the textual and linguistic analytical skills which Bernard brought to this commentary are useful for anyone doing serious scholarly study of the gospel. The text begins with a review of the history of the gospel, with ancient witness regarding its origin. A review of the structure of the text and its theological content is also present. The gospel is then commented upon in detail.
